Why yoga is great for children....
Childhood is a vibrant time when natural energy and creativity is high. Also when eyes and minds are open and learning is fun. This makes it a perfect time for children to explore while putting them in touch with how their minds and bodies work.
Children sometimes feel as though they are carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders with so many pressures in their lives: school, friends, family plus everything else going on in the world around them. But children still manage to sparkle and grow through it all.
Yoga can help children discover the whole of them: understanding and exploring the different parts that make them who they are: their bodies, their mind's (how they feel and what they think), their spirit and their personality (the spark that makes them unique). Yoga is about joining these parts together to make a unique and special person.
People come in all shapes and sizes and that is what makes us all wonderful and unique. Yoga teaches us to listen and respond to our bodies as we breathe and work through different poses. But yoga isn't all about the physical stuff, it's also about learning about your body and being patient and kind to yourself and to others. You'll be amazed at what your body can do....
Doing yoga can prepare your child's body before he or she skate's onto the rink or run's onto the field or court or swims in a pool..... Many pro and amateur athletes do yoga to improve their breathing so they don't tire as easily, to help with their flexibilty so they can prevent injuries and especially to work on their concentration so they can focus on doing their best.
There are countless benefits for children but the principal focus is to nurture a strong, healthy body, a calm contented mind and a sense of inner peace in all apects of their lives so they can grow up strong and healthy with a good way of managing stress.
YogiBuddies children's yoga program embraces the traditional physical aspect of Hatha yoga and includes other yoga inspired activities and creative expression to engage the child's mind. A usual session will include warm ups, breathing exercises, yoga games, songs, art and journalling.

Quintillian Private School
Over the past two school years I have had the opportunity to invite Wendy Webster and her YogiBuddies program into my multi-aged classroom. Initially I was interested in the YogiBuddies program as enrichment to our regular physical education curriculum, based on the physical benefits of the program; increased flexibility, core strengthening and body awareness. After experiencing the focusing, relaxation and calming aspects of the YogiBuddies program, I realized that there was much more to the program than I had originally imagined. Wendy was able to capture the attention of my students through her interesting and engaging activities. and open and encouraging exchanges with each individual. Each week the students looked forward to seeing Wendy.
Due to the high level of interest and the focus around all things positive, we have continued to practice the movements and relaxation exercises even after our program with Wendy was complete.
