The Yoga Room Studio

stretch your body, open your mind, have fun

class description

Since everyone's body is different, every person's abilities will be different. Some poses will be more easy and some can be more difficult for you to do, tell yourself to be patient and to go at your own pace. Success in yoga is not that you do the pose well, it is that you feel the stretch or shape of the pose. Please note that you should feel the stretch in a good way, to go as far into a pose as your range of motion allows. If you start to groan, struggle or stop breathing smoothly, then know  you are trying too hard.

One of my favourite expressions is "yoga is for everyone and everyone can do yoga"....

Yoga can be done by anyone regardless of age, flexibility and physical challenges....athletes rely on yoga to enhance their performance, flexible people use yoga to help add strength and energy to their range of motion, stiff and inflexible people can do yoga to open their hips and create a supple spine to aid their bodies in a more graceful and fluid motion. The young, old and even teens benefit from a regular yoga practice to encourage tired muscles to move better, to increase energy and reduce stress through a non-competitive and fun way of moving their bodies....

PARENTS and BABIES: for babies 6wks to 18 mths (with parents). This class is a fun way to stretch with your baby while beginning to strengthen your body after giving birth. Usually we will spend the first part of class singing, stretching and massaging your baby and then once your baby is relaxed and calm the next part is working specifically on your core while baby is resting peacefully on the mat beside you.

PARENTS and TOT'S: for children ages 2 to 5 (with parents). This class is for tots and parents to explore the fun energy of yoga. The class begins with energy bursting warm ups, breathing games, partner postures with popular nursery songs, yoga inspired stories in which the children are lead through a series of simple poses, followed by dream time.

YOGIBUDDIES: for children ages 6 to 12 This class begins to explore simple vinyasa's, for example: (sunshine stretch), breathe and relaxation. Children make their own yoga books for their practice at home, yoga art and journalling is part of this class.

TEEN POWER YOGA: for teen's ages 13 and up. This class is a beginner class for young teens. We will explore yoga philosophy, vinyasa flow, breathe and relaxation. This class is exceptionally good for young athletes to increase their flexibility, endurance and physical and mental strength without the competitiveness of traditional sports.
